“Physician Associate (PAs) are trained as generalists and have a professional qualification with the Faculty of Physician Associates. They perform tasks such as obtaining patient medical histories, performing clinical procedures and clinical examinations, diagnosing diseases and formulating medical management plans. Physician associates are healthcare professionals who work as part of a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a named doctor (GP). While they are not medical doctors, PA’s can assess, diagnose and treat patients in primary, secondary and community care environments within their scope of practice. They can also recommend drug treatments which are then reviewed and prescribed by the doctor.
